Saludi e trigu
A toast that praises the most important things in life: health and wheat, an inseparable combination for the peasant culture of the Union of Municipalities: Santa Giusta, Palmas Arborea, Solarussa, Siamaggiore and Villaurbana. A combination from which elementary, simple, genuine needs emerge and are capable of guaranteeing both protection and serenity.
Even today, wheat is cultivated and its use finds maximum expression in the creation of Villaurbana bread, one of the symbols of this territory which stretches out towards the Tirso valley and the Gulf of Oristano, and is one of the most fertile and generous areas of Sardinia. The food and wine tradition is still affected today by these ancient roots, enhancing and shaping the food culture of the area.
Vegetables, cereals, vineyards, olive trees, fruit trees shape the landscape and are reflected in the recipes of the ancestors. They are simple and genuine, including the ingredients used to prepare them.
Food and wine are not only the generous fruits of peasant culture, they are also expressions of feeling. They take on a sacred dimension, where ancient culture enhances every gesture and each product.
The respect for the area, the preservation of traditions, life modelled on a culture of balance between humans and nature still find a voice in the conservation and enhancement of the lagoons, fields, vineyards and olive groves.
The sea joins the lagoons, in a rhythmic alternation of history and productions. The lagoons in particular still contain a fish liveliness that is unique in its own way, revealing the ancient charm of a millenary history to the eyes, heart and taste of the attentive visitor.
The confectionery tradition is rich and varied with almond-based desserts that go perfectly well with Vernaccia, a prestigious wine that represents the entire territory.
